DeitrichDietrich Gift Will Create Duquesne's Largest Scholarship Fund

The late business leader and philanthropist William S. Dietrich II arranged a contribution of $12.5 million to the University before his death on Oct. 6. The gift is the largest in Duquesne's 133-year history and will be invested in an endowment to create The William S. Dietrich II Scholars program, providing scholarship funds to deserving students.

Duquesne and Partners Receive Up to $35 Million from FDA

Duquesne and nine other university partners, who are all part of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education, will receive this award over the next five years to improve drug manufacturing standards.

Reaching Out to Business Innovators, Duquesne Helps to Drive Change

Duquesne is the only western Pennsylvania institution to be given two U.S. Economic Development Administration awards intended to promote job growth in energy and innovation.

Former Alcoa Executive to Head Business Ethics at DU Beard Institute

Bill O'Rourke, former vice president of sustainability and environment, health and safety at Alcoa, is serving as director of business ethics at the Beard Institute in the Duquesne University Palumbo-Donahue School of Business.

Learn the Essentials of Starting a Business with Duquesne University SBDC

These seminars cover the myths of entrepreneurship and address many of the startup decisions new entrepreneurs have to make. Sessions are offered on campus and throughout the Pittsburgh region in November and December.

The Palumbo • Donahue Business School is Turning 100 in 2013!

Tuition Discounts Available to Incoming Freshman and New Graduate Students

Duquesne is offering 50 percent tuition and fee scholarships for our Leading Teacher preparation program to freshman in fall 2012. Additionally new graduate students can save up to 25 percent on tuition and fees.

Sustainable Business: Responsibility & Results: Friday, Nov. 10

The fifth Annual Beard Symposium will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and feature four thought-leaders in the industry.

Sports Shorts

SnyderCross Country

DU men finished third of 21 teams at PSU nationals and second at the A10 Championship, while the women finished in ninth place out of 29 schools at PSU and Danica Snyder was named conference Rookie of the Year at the A10 Championship.

Football

The Dukes battled the elements to defeat Monmouth 16-0 on Oct. 29. Come support the team during their last regular season home game against Robert Morris on Nov. 19.

Men's Basketball

The Dukes defeated Millersville 101-43 in their exhibition opener. Their home opener vs. Green Bay will be on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. and their Nov. 9 season opener at Arizona will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN3.

Women's Basketball

Coming off a 24-win season, the Dukes have been picked to finish third in an Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Come support the women at their home opener on Nov. 14 vs. Buffalo at 7 p.m.

Volleyball

The team improved to 17-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play after defeating Fordham on Senior Day.

Soccer

Junior Joshua Patterson has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his play in the Dukes 2-0 victory over Temple and a 5-0 shutout of St. Joseph's.

Swimming

Efforts to raise money for the Cancer Society were recently featured in a USA Swimming article.
