2009 Bicentennial of
Darwin’s Birth
In 2009 we celebrate the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his Origin of Species.
Planned events for the spring of 2009 include:
- Lectures exploring how Darwin’s ideas have changed human thought. Topics will include Social Darwinism in late 19th century Pittsburgh; changing views of nature from natural theology to natural selection; developments within Catholic theology related to evolutionary biology; and evolutionary psychology, among others.
- Weekly science lectures on
evolutionary biology.
