Event Alert: Upcoming DCLI RESEARCH EXPO 2010 (DRE)
The Center will host the first ever DCLI RESEARCH EXPO, (DRE), in the Main Entrance and Student Lounge areas of the Duquesne University School of Law on Thursday, October 21. DCLI offers numerous electronic research resources via its web site for students and faculty. This event will feature exhibits and demonstrations by representatives from the major providers of legal research databases, as well as the School of Law Center for Legal information (SOLCAT), Registrar, Career Services, and Admissions offices. There will be pizza, refreshments, and chances to win exceptional prizes. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the many useful resources available to you. Recent Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon
The students of The Securities Arbitration Practicum under the direction of Professor Alice L. Stewart participated, Oct 2-3, 2010, in the 2nd annual Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon hosted by St. John’s University School of Law in New York and The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). The participating students were Abigail Marusic (3D), Alexander Elliker (3D), and Lauren Macias (2D) and were coached by supervising attorney Sandy Garfinkel of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC. Twenty-two teams from schools across the country traveled to St. John’s Manhattan campus to compete in this three skill lawyering event consisting of competitions in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

Institute Director and former Allegheny County Forensic Science Laboratory Director and Chief Toxicologist Fred Fochtman will be joined by Institute namesake and former Allegheny County Coroner Cyril Wecht in this consideration of the scientific and legal issues involved in the nationwide medical marijuana debate. Coming quickly on the heels of Proposition 19, California's marijuana legalization ballot initiative, the seminar will also examine the drug's recreational use.
