Student Health is a Top Priority

Good health is essential to student success. Because college environments involve close contact with others, Duquesne's Health Service is experienced and prepared for illnesses among the student body. You can check this site for health news updates.

H1N1 Flu Status Report

Duquesne University Health Service personnel and administrators continue to closely monitor the spread of flu on campus and to encourage students, faculty and staff to use  preventive precautions. Despite the spread of the virus in the Pittsburgh region and on other local campuses, Duquesne has been fortunate in the relatively small number of cases identified so far in this flu season.

Duquesne Health Service reports that in the Duquesne student population, there have been confirmed cases. Health Service sees several students each day who exhibit mild flu-like symptoms.

  • Health Service is only testing students for H1N1 if they have other chronic medical conditions which would put them at risk for complications from the flu or if they are exhibiting severe symptoms.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to call Health Service if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

If You Think You Have the Flu

Students who develop flu-like symptoms-fever of 100 degrees F along with cough, runny nose, sneezes, headaches, body aches, chills or fatigue, and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting, should immediately call Health Service at 412.396.1650 for instructions.

For after-hours care and urgent care, resident students should call the front desk of their Living Learning Center for assistance, or call 412.692.5325, identify yourself as a Duquesne student, and ask for the Adolescent Medicine physician on call.

Taking Preventive Measures

Maintaining your health is also a personal responsibility. Students should know how to minimize your risk of contracting illnesses, what to do if you get sick, and what resources are available on campus to help you.
