Electronic and Print Resources

Borrowing Information

  • Use your DU ID  to borrow and renew items using the "My Account" feature in DuCat
  • Borrow up to 50 items for 8 weeks (56 days); a maximum of 2 renewals are permitted for each item. 
  • Fines for overdue materials are generally $.20 per day, but may be higher for special items such as reserve material.

Obtaining Materials NOT available at Gumberg Library

In the event that an item you need is not available through Gumberg Library’s array of resources, you can borrow books and more from other libraries and pick them up at Gumberg Library's Circulation Desk.


Training and Workshops

Hands-on training sessions on using specialized resources such as Google Scholar, RefWorks, ProQuest, and more are offered throughout the academic year.  See Library Presentations for more information.


Individual Instruction

Faculty Librarians will meet with you to discuss specific research issues. Contact Lisa Sciulli at 412.396.5346 to schedule an appointment with a librarian.

Course Reserves

  • Search for electronic course reserve (ERes) material by Course, Department, or Instructor. Please Note: Electronic Reserves are password protected. Password must be received from course instructor.

  • Search for print reserve material by Instructor, Course ID, or Course Name. Reserves are available at the Circulation Desk.


RefWorks 

Keep track of your citations more easily with RefWorks. Export references directly from research databases into RefWorks. Format a bibliography in APA, MLA or other citation styles.  User guides and instructional videos for RefWorks are available here.


Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) 

Find information for submitting Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)  at Duquesne University, including formatting guidelines, required forms, filing deadlines, and FAQ.


Graduate Study Room

For Graduate Students only! Located on the 2nd floor, this room is available for individual and group use. Check out a key at the Circulation Desk. See also Where to Study.


Quiet Study Zones

While the 4th/main floor of the library is more conducive for group work, all areas of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the library have been designated for quiet study.  Additionally, keys to  study carrels are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk.

Laptops

Check-out a laptop at the 4th Floor Circulation Desk. Loaner laptops are for library use only. Or, connect to DuqNet to use your own laptop in the library.
