Services for Graduate Students

Borrowing Information

• Use your DU ID Number to:
     - Borrow books 
     - Renew items using the My Account Feature in DuCat
• Graduate students may borrow up to 50 books and other materials for 8 weeks (56 days);
  A maximum of 2 renewals is permitted for each item. 
• Audio-visual materials may be checked out for 7 days with 1 renewal.
• Journals do not circulate.
• Fines for overdue materials are generally $.20 per day, but may be higher for special items such as reserve materials.

Training and Workshops

Hands-on training sessions on using specialized resources such as Google Scholar, RefWorks, ProQuest, and more are offered throughout the academic year.  Look for information on our website, the DU Daily website, and in the Times publication.  See information on our First Fridays series. Sessions are usually offered on the first Friday of the month.

Use the "My Account" feature to renew materials online.

Research Databases

Access these resources to find full-text journal articles, abstracts and citations.  Note: You will need your multi-pass username and password to access off-campus.

Obtaining Materials NOT available at Gumberg Library

In the event that an item you need is not available through Gumberg Library’s array of resources, you can Borrow Books or other materials from other libraries and pick them up at Gumberg Library's Circulation Desk:

• E-ZBorrow - Try this 1st! Borrow books only from participating academic libraries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia. Average delivery time: 5 days.
  
• ILLiad - Borrow books, articles, and other material from a worldwide network of libraries. Average delivery time: 9 days for books; 8 days for articles.  
  

Electronic Reserves and Course Materials (ERes) 

Search for online course reserve (or ERes) material by Course, Department, or Instructor. Please Note: Electronic Reserves are password protected. Password must be received from course instructor.

RefWorks 

Keep track of your citations more easily with RefWorks. Export references directly from research databases into RefWorks. Format a bibliography in APA, MLA or other citation styles.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) 

Information for publishing your thesis at Duquesne University, including a checklist, FAQs and a schedule of workshops can be found on this Web site.

Graduate Study Room

For Graduate Students only! Located on the 2nd floor, this room is available for individual and group use. Check out a key at the Circulation Desk.

Quiet Study Zones

While the 4th/main floor of the library is more conducive for group work, all areas of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the library have been designated for quiet study.  Additionally, keys to  study carrels are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk.


Laptops

Check-out a laptop at the 4th Floor Circulation Desk. Loaner laptops are for library use only. Or, connect to DuqNet to use your own laptop in the library.
