Jessie Goicoechea, Ph.D.
Duquesne University

Jessie Goicoechea received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Dallas. A growing interest in phenomenological and existential philosophies led her to Duquesne University where she received her M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology. In 2003, and after completing an internship at Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health Center in Lansing, Michigan and having worked as a therapist at Persad Center, the nations's second oldest licensed community mental health center specifically for the LGBT community, Dr. Goicoechea joined the faculty at Duquesne as Director of the Psychology Clinic, the primary training facility for the doctoral students. She enjoys the combination of overseeing the community clinic and participating in the students' clinical training, including providing individual and group supervision and teaching courses on assessment and child and couples therapy.
Dr. Goicoechea is a licensed psychologist and maintains a private practice for children, adults, and couples. Clinical interests include child-centered play therapy, therapy with sexual minorities, and intimate partner abuse, particularly in same-sex couples. She has conducted qualitative research on the impact of psychiatric, diagnostic discourse on patient-staff relationships in psychiatric settings and she's currently investigating clients' experiences of collaborative assessment.
