How we support community agencies
Publicizing Needs and Agency Mission
The OSL has two communication channels through which agency needs and mission can be publicized: A list serve that is sent to many deans, department chairs, and faculty and a quarterly e-newsletter.
Connect to Faculty
The Office of Service-Learning (OSL) connects community agencies to faculty whose students can meet agency needs as part of class-related service work.
Build Agency Capacity
Through service-learning, students can implement projects that build agency capacity or provide direct assistance that supplements day-to-day client services. Examples of past projects and assistance includes designing diversity plans, strategic plans, tutoring, mentoring, and Web site design. The services students provide are determined through conversation between faculty and community partners.
Facilitate Smooth Partnering
The Community Partnerships Coordinator will implement the necessary procedures to ensure that the community agency, faculty, and students have a seamless partnership. This collaboration and direct communication will allow the needs of the community agency and the students' learning objectives to be met.
Connect to other University Departments
Sometimes agencies have needs that are best met by Duquesne programs other than service-learning. The OSL is happy to help you determine if a different program can be more helpful and will help you connect with that department.
