Application Requirements

For admission to any graduate program in Special Education, applicants must meet the minimum GPA requirement (3.0) for their previous coursework although some exceptions may apply. To be considered for admission to any graduate program in Special Education, applicants must submit the following to the School of Education Graduate Office:

  1. A complete application for graduate admission to the School of Education.
  2. Official transcripts from the accredited college, university or seminary where the applicant obtained a bachelor’s degree.

Upon acceptance by the School of Education Graduate Office, applicants are admitted for graduate study in Special Education with provisional status, and an individual program of study will be designed for the student by his or her assigned advisor. After completing the required screening courses in the first 6–9 credits of the program, students are required to apply for candidacy, which is granted to applicants who have successfully met the benchmarks and gateways.

If an applicant does not possess the necessary prerequisites, or if the applicant’s record is unsatisfactory, conditional status or dismissal from the program may be recommended.
