Biography
Rev. Cleary is serving as the Director of the Center for Spiritan Studies since October 2022. Prior to that, Rev. Cleary served as Associate Director and was the Center's 2016 Spiritan Scholar, having researched the post-Vatican II history of the Congregation.
Ordained in 1982, Rev. Cleary was a missionary in the Gambia and Sierra Leone until 1993 when he returned to Ireland to work in school administration and the establishment of Boards of Management in two Spiritan Colleges. In 2006, he was appointed the director of formation in the new theology formation community in Harare, Zimbabwe. Returning to Ireland in 2012, he became the JPIC Coordinator and also was responsible for promoting the Spiritan ethos in the Spiritan schools.
