Biography

Ian serves as the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing and Director of Counseling Services.  He has been part of the Center for Student Wellbeing for fifteen years. Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with minors in Anthropology and Philosophy, from Florida Atlantic University in 1996.    Master or Arts in Existential-Phenomenological Psychology from Duquesne University in 1998.  Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in 2006.  Ian became a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2009.

Ian's role as Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing, he is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Center for Student Wellbeing, which include Counseling Services and Recreation Services.  Ian provide direct supervision for the Assistant Directors of the Counseling Center and Director of Recreation Services.  Ian is responsible for the strategic leadership, vision and direction, effective management, supervision, and day-to-day administration of a multidisciplinary team of wellbeing professionals and support staff.  

Ian works closely with the Senior Vice President for Student Life and collaborate closely with Campus Ministry and colleagues throughout the Division of Student Life, as well as with other campus and community stakeholders, to ensure the delivery of high quality mental health, recreational programs, and preventive care and wellbeing services to students in alignment with the Missional, institutional and Student Life goals, purposes, and priorities.

Ian is responsible and accountable for the effective functioning of clinical and outreach programs and services, operational and resource management, budget and financial administration, wellbeing quality improvement, and compliance to ensure that all statutory, regulatory, professional, and accreditation standards are consistently met. In Ian's role, he has developed the Center’s model of care, which involves ensuring that students receive therapeutic support in a timely fashion.  Ian has served on several key University committees such as the CCRT and Solidarity Group, which he co-developed in 2020.  Ian serves as a consultant for the University when major mental health issues arise such as those that affect the campus community as a whole and am the advisor to Strong Bodies/Deep Minds.
