Biography

Jennifer Elliott, Pharm.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Pharmacy with the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the School of Pharmacy at Duquesne University. Elliott has spent her entire career creating and implementing programs in pursuit of health equity. She has developed cross-sector collaborations to improve the health of children, families and communities through education, research, outreach and advocacy.

She leads a team that developed a community-based screening model to identify children with undiagnosed and uncontrolled asthma and connect them with appropriate care. The free service is offered in underserved schools and communities throughout Allegheny County. Elliott also created school-based asthma clinics in six underserved schools throughout the county, this as childhood asthma rates in and around Pittsburgh remain alarmingly high. This school-based, interdisciplinary model has resulted in significant improvements in asthma control and asthma-related quality of life as well as significant reductions in asthma-related emergency department visits. Elliott is currently working to create school-based health centers, which would provide preventative, acute and/or chronic medical care to high-risk youth. She and her team developed an Asthma and Food Allergy Awareness program for school students, teachers and other professionals.

Elliott teaches pediatrics as well as respiratory diseases (asthma, cystic fibrosis) and is course coordinator for the Community Engaged Learning Course.

She received the Creative Teaching Award in 2012 from Duquesne University's Center for Teaching Excellence, the 10 under 10 Award from the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association in 2014, the School of Pharmacy Faculty Award in 2015 and the Scholarship Award in 2016, was inducted into the Research Hall of Fame in 2017, and was recognized by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP as a 40 under 40 honoree in 2018 and the Incline's Who's Next: Education in 2019.
