Kassim Traore, Ph.D.

Dr. Traore earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Howard University, Washington DC, and has pursued post-doctoral fellowships in toxicological sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Traore began his academic career at Elizabeth City State University and has moved up the academic ladder to the position of Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Dr. Traore transitioned to Campbell University in 2015 and served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at The School of Osteopathic Medicine. In March 2023, Dr. Traore moved to Duquesne University and assumed the role of Professor and founding Chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the new College of Osteopathic Medicine. Throughout his tenure at ECSU, Campbell University, and now at Duquesne University, Dr. Traore authored numerous papers and secured multiple NIH research grants. Dr. Traore’s research is in the area of reproductive toxicology, with a primary focus on understanding the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs on steroid hormone synthesis in the testis. Specifically, his work aims to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in phthalate-induced inhibition of steroidogenesis. He uses biochemical, pharmacological, cellular, and molecular methodologies, along with in vitro and in vivo functional studies in animal models to examine the impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs on male reproductive system health and aging.
