In a move that broadens the academic horizon for prospective students, Duquesne University now accepts the Classic Learning Test (CLT) as an official pathway to admission—reflecting its ongoing commitment to expanding access and welcoming students from a variety of educational backgrounds.

The CLT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam that emphasizes foundational academic skills and critical thinking, offering an alternative to standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. By including the CLT as another accepted test, along with offering a test-optional pathway, Duquesne University aims to broaden accessibility for students seeking a comprehensive and thoughtful education.

“We’re excited to provide the Classic Learning Test as a new alternative for applicants to Duquesne University,” said Joel Bauman, senior vice president for enrollment management. “With applicants from all 50 states and 85 countries, we want to ensure students have options to demonstrate their academic preparedness, especially as they might be aligned to most benefit from our signature broad-based foundational approach and classically informed Essential Questions and Bridges curriculum.”

Students wishing to submit their CLT scores can do so when they apply via Duquesne’s Future Focused application, Common App or Coalition with Scoir.  For more information on requirements and deadlines, please visit duq.edu/admissions or contact the admissions office at admissions@duq.edu or 412.396.6222.
