McCormick Ware has served as director of diversity and inclusion initiatives at the University of Pittsburgh Library System since 2004. She is responsible for these initiatives for more than 250 faculty, staff and students on five campuses, including four regional campus libraries. In that role, McCormick Ware developed diversity programming and training for the entire system and led University Library System-driven diversity efforts throughout the larger academic community.

Her extensive experience collaborating with faculty, staff and students at Pitt has prepared her well to help shape this new role at Duquesne. In addition to her work in diversity and inclusion, McCormick Ware previously held marketing and communications roles at times in the University of Pittsburgh Library System. She was director and field instructor with the University Community Career Development Partnership Project of Pitt's School of Social Work and executive director of Pittsburgh's Urban Youth Action, Inc. McCormick Ware started her career at Duquesne, working in admissions and coordinating multicultural programs.
"Diversity and inclusion has been my life's work throughout my academic and not-for-profit careers, and I look forward to more of this important work in a deeper capacity at Duquesne University," said McCormick Ware. "Duquesne was where I launched my professional career, and I am honored to come full circle and return to continue this important work as the University has committed itself to an action plan with broad reach for the benefit of all who are part of the Duquesne community."
Well known for her community involvement, McCormick Ware is a founding member of the Greater Pittsburgh Higher Education Diversity Consortium. The organization, launched in 2014 with Duquesne as the host institution for several years, comprises diversity and inclusion professionals at colleges and universities in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
McCormick Ware has provided diversity and inclusion training to Pittsburgh Public Schools Food Service Divisions, the Junior League of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Diversity Council, the National School Nutrition Association and other not-for-profit organizations in the Pittsburgh region. McCormick Ware holds several certifications related to diversity, equity and inclusion, including from Pitt's first Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program, where she was in the program's first cohort; Pitt's Center for Organizational Leadership and Ethics; the University of South Florida's Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate program, where she was a member of that program's first cohort; Pitt's Global Competencies Certificate Program, where she was a member of the first cohort; and Duquesne's School of Professional Development. She has a bachelor's and master's degree from Duquesne and is a past member of the University's Alumni Board of Governors.
