The Duquesne Kline School of Law's Legal Research and Writing Program invites law alumni to serve as judges for the first-year students’ appellate oral arguments on Thursday evening, April 9; Friday afternoon, April 10; and Saturday, April 11, morning and afternoon.

Students are drafting trial-level briefs on dispositive motions. The arguments will be held at Duquesne Kline School of Law on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, April 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.;
  • Friday, April 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 5:45;
  • Saturday, April 11, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon;
  • Saturday, April 11, from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 or 4:30 p.m.

Even though the students will be drafting trial briefs, the arguments will be run like an appellate oral argument, with panels of three judges. An LRW faculty member will be on each panel. We have three assignment vehicles this year, and you will be assigned to one of those assignment vehicles. You will be able to note your preference on the form referenced below. Prior to your scheduled date, you will receive, via email, the students’ briefs, along with a memorandum that outlines the issues in the briefs and a list of potential questions to ask.

As always, alumni participation enhances our instruction and offers our students an opportunity to meet and learn from our amazing graduates. If you are interested, please complete the online registration form.

If you are scheduled, Jennifer%20McIntyre, the LRW team member managing this event, will contact you in mid-March regarding the precise date and time for your turn on the bench.
