Minor in French

If you choose to minor in French, you will need to complete 15 credits of coursework, and we begin counting at the French 202 level. French 101-202, as well as other courses, also fulfill your Bridges requirements in Communication & Creative Expression and Cultural Diversity & Inclusion.

After completing French 202 or testing above 202 through a placement exam or other means,

you may take any four language, literature or culture courses at the 300- or 400-level to complete the 15 credits. You are allowed to take one upper-level course approved through the program taught in English.  

Also, you are strongly encouraged to spend a semester or summer studying abroad in a French -speaking country.

What you'll learn with a French Minor

With a French minor, you will have the skills needed to achieve your bigger goals, regardless of industry or area of expertise within the French language and culture realm and will be able to:

• Understand French culture, including cultural trends and issues, through French language and culture courses.
• Read and discuss selected cultural and literary texts in French.
• Develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in French, with special emphasis on oral communication.
• Use basic and more complex French grammatical structures accurately in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
• Discuss French culture through immersion experiences in France, including museum and castle visits and conversations with local people.
