French

If you choose to minor in French, you will need to complete 15 credits of coursework, and we begin counting at the French 202 level. French 101-202, as well as other courses, also fulfill your Bridges requirements in Communication & Creative Expression and Cultural Diversity & Inclusion.

After completing French 202 or testing above 202 through a placement exam or other means,

you may take any four language, literature or culture courses at the 300- or 400-level to complete the 15 credits. You are allowed to take one upper-level course approved through the program taught in English.  

Also, you are strongly encouraged to spend a semester or summer studying abroad in a French -speaking country.

French Course Offerings

Fundamentals of oral and written French. You will focus on development of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, and culture. Special emphasis on oral communication.
The sequel to 101.
Strengthening of basic structures and introduction of more complex structures. This course will increase accuracy in listening, speaking, reading and writing and promote knowledge of cultural background.
Fourth semester capstone course designed to continue the development of oral and written skills. You will read and discuss selected cultural and literary texts, review grammar in the context of situations and readings, and explore cultural trends and issues.
In this immersion course, you will experience and discuss various aspects of French culture, through visits to museums, cathedrals, and castles, meetings and conversations with local people, short trips and excursions, etc. In France.
