Certificate in Media Arts and Technology

An 18-credit (six-course) certificate in media arts and technology is for professionals who want to keep current in the fast-paced, evolving field in which media, design and technology intersect. The certificate affords professionals opportunities to explore and research careers in media, design and production, and technology. The media arts and technology certificate allows students to build a focused program of study. Certificate students may concentrate in creative & strategic media or interactive design. 
 
The creative & strategic media program focuses on effective multimedia storytelling and visual communication approaches utilized in journalism, public relations, advertising, publishing and digital media production.  
 
The interactive design program focuses on designing interactive media products (e.g., websites, apps, augmented reality, immersive media experiences), user experience (UX) design and research, usability and technology.

Students concentrating in creative & strategic media must take the following courses:

  • DMA 501 Introduction to Media Design
  • DMA 505 Graphic Design Process

And one of the following courses:

  • MDIA 582 Legal Issues in Media OR
  • ADPR 567 Research Methods OR
  • MDIA 565 Ethical Issues in Media

Three additional graduate courses from the Department of Media selected after consultation with the graduate director. 

Students concentrating in interactive design must take:

  • DMA 545 Interactive Design Studio (Methods)
  • DMA 562 Elements of User Experience (UX) Design
  • DMA 564 Human Computer Interaction
  • DMA 572 Development Studio

Two additional graduate courses from the Department of Media selected after consultation with the graduate director. Courses may be transferred to the M.F.A. program provided the request is made prior to your last course. At that time, you must provide three letters of reference.
