Biography
Dr. Alicia Paterno is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. She teaches general chemistry 121 and 122, coordinates the recitations and laboratories for these classes, and mentors the graduate students in their general chemistry teaching assignments. She is also involved in the instruction of the introduction to chemistry course. In addition, Dr. Paterno serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Paterno earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Ithaca College, and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She began teaching at Duquesne in 2002 and enjoys helping the undergraduate students build their chemistry foundation and problem-solving skills. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she regularly attends the Biennial Conference in Chemical Education to learn about new teaching strategies and technologies, and organizes a symposium about engaging students in large chemistry classes.
