Biography
Allison Lovee's background as a pianist, composer, and teacher has led her musical career in a variety of directions. From teaching pop songwriting to classical ear training and everything in between, no two classes with Allison are the same.
Allison received her Master's degrees in Composition and Music Theory Pedagogy from The Peabody Institute in 2022. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Composition at Southern Methodist University, where she was accepted to an exchange program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the International Music Festival of the Adriatic. Since finishing her degrees, Allison started Gough Street Music Garden, a private lessons studio teaching all ages and skill levels.
She is also a recording musician and her music is available to stream online. She has traveled the US and Europe premiering her large ensemble works, chamber music, solo works, and art songs. She incorporates her identity into her music and hopes to use her platform to spread positive change in the music world. Noteworthy works include “revel,” written for the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, her song cycle “Believe Me, Folks: Ten Songs for a Mad President,” her piece “Three Short Pieces for String Quartet,” which won her the International Music Festival of the Adriatic’s Duino Prize for composition, and her piece “till the water runs clear,” a collaboration with musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as part of their online “Lunch Bachs” series.
Despite her love of music beginning early in life with piano, Allison's pre-college musical education lacked the structure and answers provided by ear training and music theory. Since diving into those topics headfirst as an undergraduate, Allison has developed an immense appreciation for the analytical side of music creation. She believes in literally practicing what she preaches and aims to help her students acquire practical performing skills as well as essential academic knowledge. Allison is passionate about making music accessible for people of all backgrounds and helping students find music that makes them uniquely excited.
