Amy Mattila

Teaching Philosophy:  My own passion for lifelong learning has contributed to my teaching philosophy. I enjoy empowering my students through the process of education and firmly believe in taking the classroom into context, which aligns well with the occupational therapy philosophy of "learning by doing". In each of my courses, my goals are threefold:

• To promote a positive learning environment;
• To spark learner enthusiasm for knowledge;and
• To provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning

To accomplish this, I enjoy applying a wide variety of pedagogy based on essential educational principles encompassing cognitive and social constructivist theories, diversity issues, and authentic assessment.

My research contributions focus around scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and occupational therapy psychosocial practice. Specifically, exploring how students learn in community engaged contexts and evidence based interventions to promote occupational therapy's role in the behavioral healthcare team.

Current projects include assessing the efficacy of psychosocial modalities on reducing depression and anxiety on college campuses; understanding the impact of grit, growth mindset, and gratitude pedagogical interventions on clinical education; and understanding the transformative nature of occupational therapy doctoral capstone curriculum.
