Angelica (Angie) West has been a practicing RN for 15 years. Her career started in pulmonary medicine in 2011. In 2014 she transitioned to the emergency department (ED) where she still practices. Another area of active nursing practice is as a local reproductive health center focusing on gynecological/gender affirming care.

She has mentored and precepted countless new nurses in the past 15 years. She was the co-creator of a novel ED graduate nurse (GN) program within her ED. This novel ED GN program won 2nd place at UPMC Presbyterian’s Quality & Safety Fair in 2024. This novel program was also presented at the PA Emergency Nurses Association in 2024. This program included a simulation series to help bridge the practice gap between students and professionals.

Angie is passionate about simulation in nursing. She was the creator of a simulation program at her previous school of nursing. During that tenure, she developed many pre-briefing strategies to ensure psychological safety in simulation. She also incorporated a mass casualty simulation + simulations with the LGBTQ+ population.

She is pursuing a PhD to research best practices in pre-briefing for undergraduate nursing students.

Angie is an active member of the Western Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association, where she is currently the treasurer. She has presented at the state & National Emergency Nurses Association Conference.
