Biography
Bethany currently serves as the Graduate Instructional Consultant for Teaching Assistants. Her role mainly involves aiding graduate students who have stepped into instructional roles across the University. This aid includes individual consultations, group workshops, the Certificate of University Teaching and Advanced Certificate of University Teaching programs, the TA Award for Excellence in Teaching, and helping with other CTE projects and endeavors. Bethany also manages CTE's blog, The Flourishing Academic, with contributions from the rest of the department and from voices across the University.
Bethany is currently in the dissertation phase of her Ph.D. in Duquesne's English Department. Her dissertation focuses on creating an archive of materials considering Queen Victoria's childhood play with dolls. In 2015, she earned her M.A. in Literary and Cultural Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and her B.A. in English from Saint Vincent College in 2013. She additionally holds a certification in Secondary English Education and minors in Biology and Psychology. Bethany's research interests include children's literature, women's and gender studies, the Victorian Era, composition and pedagogy studies, and curriculum design. Her past experiences include instructing UCOR 101 and 102, Intro to Fiction, and Children's Literature courses for the English Department. Bethany has also served as a research assistant in the English Department, as a Writing Center Consultant, and in various volunteer roles for graduate organizations and committees. She also served as a Graduate Assistant for Pitt's Learning, Research, and Development Center in the Institute for Learning.
When not working, Bethany enjoys spending time with her toddler, husband, and huskies. She is working on visiting all of Pennsylvania's state parks and loves to grow her faith through time in nature and with family. She unwinds by traveling, reading, and enjoying anything Harry Potter related.
