Biography
As a clinical pharmacist committed to advancing patient care, Dr. Kirk embraces innovative approaches to pharmacy practice aligning with the dynamic healthcare landscape. Experienced in developing new programs, her strategic vision revolves around integrating cutting-edge technologies, evidence-based practices and continuous quality improvement to optimize health outcomes.
Dr. Kirk earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas in 2001. After initially training at Sibley Hospital in Washington DC, she transitioned from adult to pediatric critical care in 2006.
Dr. Kirk has more than 17 years of experience at Seattle Children's Hospital, where she specialized as a cardiac critical care pharmacist before becoming the Heart Center's clinical pharmacy specialist supporting patients throughout the continuum of care. More recently, she served as the Medication Safety Manager in the hospital's Center for Patient Safety and Quality, focusing on organizational medication safety and quality improvement.
As a clinical instructor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy for more than 10 years, she taught pediatric pharmacy electives and led their focused seminars in medical literature evaluation. Additionally, she has volunteered as a pharmacist with Children's HeartLink, an international cardiac surgery team, and at the University of Washington’s Autism Center.
Dr. Kirk’s research interests include pediatric cardiology and anticoagulation, medication management in pediatric cardiac mechanical support, and medication safety and quality improvement.
