Crystal McCormick Ware is Duquesne University's Inaugural Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and Senior Advisor to the President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
McCormick Ware upholds and fosters the importance and value of a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all Duquesne students, faculty and staff. She leads efforts to develop and coordinate strategies and initiatives that enhance the University's efforts to cultivate and increase diversity, improve equity and promote inclusion for all members of the Duquesne community.
She is an essential collaborator who works with campus partners that focus on DEI initiatives; is coordinator of the President's Advisory Council on DEI; and provides important updates on internal metrics and progress of DEI initiatives. McCormick Ware also works with the University president and leadership, advising on issues relating to Duquesne's DEI strategy and providing support through innovative ideas, approaches and program concepts.
McCormick Ware previously was director of diversity and inclusion initiatives at the University of Pittsburgh Library System for 17 years. Her prior roles include serving as director and a field instructor with the University Community Career Development Partnership Project at Pitt's School of Social Work and as executive director of Pittsburgh's Urban Youth Action, Inc. McCormick Ware started her career at Duquesne, working in admissions and coordinating multicultural programs.
A founding member of the Greater Pittsburgh Higher Education Diversity Consortium, McCormick Ware also has provided diversity and inclusion training to the Pittsburgh Diversity Council, the National School Nutrition Association and other not-for-profit organizations in the Pittsburgh region.
In addition to several certifications related to DEI, McCormick Ware has a bachelor's and master's degree from Duquesne and is a past member of the University's Alumni Board of Governors.
