Biography

Frank Garland is a program fellow for Duquesne University’s Wolfe Endowed Scholar-Intern Fund, housed within the Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media. A native of Pittsburgh, Frank spent more than 30 years working as a reporter, columnist and editor for several newspapers in Northern California, including The Modesto Bee and The Stockton Record.

In 2005, Frank returned to Pennsylvania to teach at Gannon University in Erie, Pa., a position he held for 17 years. After retiring from Gannon, Garland served for three years as the coordinator of the Pittsburgh Media Partnership, housed at Point Park University’s Center for Media Innovation. In addition to his work at Duquesne, Frank also is a partner in the West Hills Gazette, an online news outlet covering Pittsburgh’s western suburbs.

A lifelong baseball lover, Frank has written books on Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famers Willie Stargell and Floyd “Arky” Vaughan and has contributed chapters to four other Pittsburgh-centric sports books.
