Biography

Katie E. Butler is an adjunct professor of law. She teaches Core and Applied Competencies, a year-long bar studies course focusing on all the major topics of the Pennsylvania Bar Exam. 

Katie is currently an Associate at Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky practicing primarily in civil litigation. Katie’s background spans judicial, governmental, and academic settings. She has served as a judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Philip A. Ignelzi in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas and has held numerous public service positions at the federal level, including as a General Attorney within the Borrower Defense Group at the US Department of Education, as an Economist for the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, and within the National Park Service at Antietam National Battlefield. 

Active in the community, Katie serves as a chapter leader for Gay for Good Pittsburgh and as team captain of the Pittsburgh Puffins Women’s Ice Hockey team. She has held leadership and founding roles in organizations dedicated to building inclusive spaces for women and gender-diverse athletes.

Katie holds a JD from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University ('23) as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Shepherd University ('14).
