Biography
Dr. Larissa Allen is an Assistant Professor in the Duquesne University School of Nursing. She is a registered nurse and board-certified forensic and emergency nurse whose clinical practice focuses on emergency and forensic nursing. In addition to her faculty appointment, she serves as the Forensic Coordinator at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Emergency Department, where she supports forensic nursing practice, education, quality improvement, and sexual assault response.
Dr. Allen's research examines the mental health consequences of sexual violence, with a particular focus on suicidal thoughts and behaviors among gender diverse adolescents and young adults. Her scholarship also addresses forensic nursing practice, sexual assault care, trauma-informed care, and improving access to evidence-based interventions for survivors of sexual violence.
Dr. Allen teaches undergraduate students in population health. She is actively involved in professional service through the Emergency Nurses Association and is committed to advancing trauma-informed, equitable care for patients who have experienced violence.
