Biography

Marcy Smorey-Giger is an Alumna of the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.  In addition, she received her Master of Science degree from the School of Pharmacy School of Natural and Environmental Science at Duquesne University, and she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College.  Marcy has worked within in-house corporate law departments for her entire legal career with her most recent position as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DynaVox Inc., the leading U.S. provider of speech generating devices and symbol-adapted special education software used to assist individuals in overcoming their speech, language and learning challenges.  

For Marcy's role as General Counsel to a company, she oversees all of the business's legal and compliance matters, as well as, corporate governance. With nearly 30 years of legal and business experience, Marcy's expertise as a legal business partner encompasses corporate, operations, governance, compliance, securities, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and litigation management.  Prior to joining DynaVox Inc., Marcy was the Corporate Counsel and Secretary of WESCO International, Inc., a Fortune 500 and NYSE-listed company.

Sharing her experiences as in-house counsel is meaningful to Marcy which has led her to serve on the Board of Directors and Chair Membership for the Association of Corporate Counsel, Western Pennsylvania, as well as, teach as adjunct faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.  Marcy provides law students experiential learning via the Corporate In-House Counsel Practice class, a simulation course focused on the unique role of in-house counsel.
