Biography
Dr. Monica L. Skomo, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Administration, Senior Advisor to the Dean, and Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, earned her B.S. in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Duquesne University and completed an Academic and Research Fellowship. Dr. Skomo is a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP). In addition, she holds certificates in pharmacy-based immunization, dyslipidemia disease management, pharmaceutical care for patients with diabetes, and is a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS). As a pharmacist clinician, Dr. Skomo has practiced in the community and ambulatory care settings. In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Skomo has teaching responsibilities in the School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Skomo has engaged in outcomes research focusing on pharmacist care of migraine sufferers. She has secured grant funding and has published her research findings in the pharmacy and medical literature.
Dr. Skomo has completed professional development programs including the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Academy Teaching and Learning Certificate Program, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP), the Penn State University Academic Leadership Academy, and the HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Leadership Institute.
Dr. Skomo has received awards including the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy Dean’s Award, Duquesne University School of Pharmacy Faculty Award, Class of 2013 Professor of the Year Award, Class of 2012 Professor of the Year Award, George H. Searight Community Service Award from the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, and the Duquesne University 2010 Team Award for the Wellness Team.
