Biography
Dr. Reva Mathieu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership at Duquesne University. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of New England, a Masters of Education in Special Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maine. She is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) and currently maintains certifications as a Special Education Teacher and School Administrator.
At Duquesne, Dr. Mathieu serves as the Program Director for the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Program. She currently teaches courses in those areas including behavioral assessment and intervention, ethics in ABA, and courses focused on Autism Spectrum Disorders. She also supervises practicum and capstone experiences for ABA students. Dr. Mathieu has previously taught coursework in foundations of special education, special education assessment, and various methods courses for special education teachers. As a currently certified special educator, she previously served as the department's Field Coordinator and Practicum Supervisor for special education field and practicum placements.
Dr. Mathieu’s research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of ABA, special education, and educational leadership. Her scholarship focuses on compassion-based and ethical practices in ABA and organization leadership, exploring self-compassion practices to reduce practitioner burnout, effective leadership strategies to support special education students and their families, and ways to strengthen leadership during times of ongoing crisis in education settings.
Dr. Mathieu volunteers with the Association for Science in Autism Treatment (ASAT), an organization dedicated to promoting safe, effective, and science-based interventions for autistic individuals. She particularly values ASAT’s commitment to making its resources freely accessible to all through collaborative efforts across various practitioners, parents, and autistic individuals themselves.
