Biography
Dr. Toni Senchisen, EdD, NREMT, CHSOS joined Duquesne University’s Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine (DUQ-NCOM) in 2024 and serves as Director of Simulation. In her role, she oversees simulation operations and supports the delivery of clinical education across the medical school. Her responsibilities include managing the simulation operations, budget, and clinical skills schedules, as well as overseeing the supplies, equipment, and resources needed to support all clinical learning experiences.
Dr. Senchisen earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Allegheny College, her master's degree in biomedical sciences with a concentration in Medical Simulation from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia campus, and her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Health Professions Education from A.T. Still University. She is also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) and Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).
Her academic and research interests center on healthcare simulation, medical education, and preparing learners for clinical practice. Her master’s thesis focused on developing an introduction-to-clerkship curriculum designed to prepare third-year medical students for the transition to patient care. Her doctoral dissertation examined the application of healthcare simulation standards of best practice within medical school simulation curricula.
Dr. Senchisen has worked in healthcare since 2014 and in health professions education since 2016. Her career in simulation allows her to combine two longstanding passions: medicine and teaching. For her, one of the most rewarding aspects of working with medical students is seeing the moment when a learner makes the connection between concepts learned in the classroom and their application to caring for a patient. Those moments reinforce her commitment to creating meaningful, hands-on educational experiences that help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for clinical practice.
