The Division of Marketing and Communication (DMC) at Duquesne University has been recognized with five prestigious CUPPIE Awards from the College and University Public Relations and Associated Professionals of Pennsylvania (CUPRAP).
The CUPPIE Awards celebrate creative excellence in marketing and communication and highlight the work of higher education member institutions in categories such as advertising, electronic media, print, public relations and marketing, writing and photography.
The DMC team’s exceptional work across a range of disciplines earned the team recognition in several categories for projects including:
- Gold Award for the Kline School of Law Gift Announcement (marketing, media, social media and creative services)
- Silver Award for School of Nursing Mary Ellen Glasgow’s Op-Ed (media relations)
- Silver Award for the College of Osteopathic Medicine Groundbreaking PR event (marketing, media relations, creative services and social media)

“These awards recognize the exceptional creativity and hard work of our entire team, who are committed to delivering outstanding results for our University,” said Gabe Welsch, vice president of marking and communications. “We are honored to receive these awards from CUPRAP, which represent the acknowledgment of how the quality of our work stands up against our peers in the industry.”
In addition to the CUPPIES, Welsch was recognized at the Spring 2023 conference for his service to the organization with the prestigious Don Hale Award for service and significant contributions to CUPRAP. The award, named for CUPRAP’s second president, acknowledged Welsch’s term as president from 2017 to 2019, as well as his leadership as a board member and service on various committees of the professional organization.
Overall, these awards represent a highly competitive field, with more than 500 entries submitted by professionals from Pennsylvania and surrounding-area colleges and universities.
