Duquesne University President Ken Gormley has appointed Tom Dugas as its new vice president for technology and chief information officer, effective July 1. Dugas will take the position formerly held by Chuck Bartel, who recently retired after 10 years with the University.

Dugas, who previously served as Duquesne’s associate vice president, deputy chief information officer and chief information security officer, joined the University in 2016. In that position, he led Duquesne’s Computing and Technology Services division, which is responsible for information security, administrative applications, IT engineering and operations and IT service and support management.

“Tom Dugas brings a remarkable depth of expertise in digital innovation. His ability to leverage technology to advance academic and operational excellence has been instrumental to the University’s success,” said Duquesne University President Ken Gormley. “With Tom’s leadership, Duquesne will continue to harness the power of emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning and research for our entire campus community.”

An industry leader, Dugas has spoken at national conferences on technology subjects ranging from cloud computing and information security to customer support and project management.

He received the 2023 EDUCAUSE Community Leadership Award and in 2019 was recognized as Chief Information Security Officer of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council. He also serves on the boards of a variety of trade and community organizations in the region.

“I look forward to building on our division’s strong foundation to drive innovation, strengthen our digital infrastructure and deliver technology solutions that support the University’s long-term goals,” Dugas said. “It’s an exciting time as the University continues to meet its bigger goals and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help lead us into the future."
