Senior Vice President for Student Life Dr. Leanna Fenneberg has been recognized as a prestigious Pillar of the Profession by the NASPA Foundation. Each year at the NASPA Annual Conference, the NASPA Foundation recognizes a series of distinguished individuals who have served as leaders, teachers and scholars in student affairs and higher education.
The NASPA Foundation’s Pillar of the Profession Award honors those who have provided
significant service to NASPA through leadership roles and who have created lasting
impacts at their workplaces through sustained, professional distinction in student
affairs. When a Pillar is selected, the nominator partners with a Foundation board
member to raise a minimum of $3,500 in the name of the nominee to further research
and scholarship in student affairs.
“As a seasoned leader in higher education, Leanna works every day to connect students
with life-changing opportunities that allow them to learn, grow and thrive,” said
Duquesne President Ken Gormley. “She exemplifies the University’s mission by serving
students so they in turn can serve others, making her not only a Pillar of the Profession,
but a pillar of the Duquesne community.”
Fenneberg was recognized for her leadership within NASPA, as well as her student life
expertise, evidenced through peer-reviewed articles, national presentations, and instruction
in master’s and doctoral programs in higher education administration.
“I am deeply grateful for this honor, especially from an organization that has been
a professional home and place of inspiration across my career,” said Fenneberg. “It
is a humbling recognition that connects you with memories of student-centered work
with incredible colleagues across the field and throughout university campuses served.
It is such a privilege to extend this work to the wonderful community that is Duquesne.”
