In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Duquesne is launching its first annual MLK Unity Week, which will include various events in the spirit of service, equity and unity. 

Events include:

  • Monday, Jan. 16 - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast and Program 

This annual event commemorates Dr. King’s life and contributions to changes in law and social justice. It features a buffet-style breakfast followed by a prayer service and recognition program. It begins at 7:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2001 Wylie Avenue.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 17 – National Day of Racial Healing 2023

In recognition of National Day of Racial Healing, The Center for Excellence in Diversity and Student Inclusion will be asking attendees to complete cards that describe what unity means to them. The cards will be displayed outside of the Center’s office. The event takes place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Center’s office (302 Duquesne Union) and refreshments will be available.

  • Thursday, Jan. 19 – MLK Unity Walk

The MLK Unity Walk promotes the university’s commitment to unity and peace on campus. Walkers are asked to meet at Old Main at 10:45 a.m. and the walk will begin at 11 a.m. The Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, the Center for Excellence in Diversity and Student Inclusion and Campus Ministry are the primary sponsors of this new event.

A Night of Community Building, which includes networking for alumni and students, will take place on Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Africa Room.

  • Friday, Jan. 20 – MLK Luncheon

The MLK Unity Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Africa Room. To RSVP, contact Amber Satterwhite at satterwhiteaFREEDUQUESNE.
