New national rankings and test scores show Duquesne University’s School of Nursing is providing horizon-expanding education, whether it’s in person or online.

The nursing school’s 2022 undergraduate graduating class far surpassed state and national averages on a test that determines licensure status. The school also received high marks from U.S. News and World Reports for its online graduate programs.

“This recognition reflects both the hard work of our recent nursing alumni and our faculty in making Duquesne one of the top nursing schools in the country,” said School of Nursing Dean Mary Ellen Glasgow. “These results continue the school’s legacy of preparing excellent nurses who are needed more than ever to deliver high quality health care.”

The Duquesne class achieved a 95.58 percent first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) exam, a standardized test that every state regulatory uses to determine whether a candidate is ready to become a licensed registered nurse.

Duquesne’s pass rate exceeded the national average of 79.92 percent, and the Pennsylvania average of 84.37 percent.

The school’s online graduate programs also had a strong showing in the 2023 U.S. News and World Report Best Online Programs Rankings. The school’s Online Master’s in Nursing Program rose to 37th nationally, up from 46th in 2022 and several specialty areas ranked in the top 10, including:

  • Online Master’s in Nursing Programs – Nursing Education (2)
  • Online Master’s in Nursing Programs – Family Nurse Practitioner (4)
  • Online Master’s in Nursing Programs – Nursing Administration (9)
  • Online Master’s in Nursing Programs for Veterans (9).
