“David has done a fantastic job in his first term as dean of our School of Music,” said Gormley. “He understands and encourages Duquesne’s music students—both as an administrator and a teacher—as they learn the skills to build a fulfilling career and discover how their profession can improve the lives of others. David has been an effective leader for his staff and faculty, and he is integral in Duquesne reaching for bigger goals. I’m thrilled to reappoint him to another term as dean.”

During Wehr’s tenure as dean since 2019, the School of Music has launched new graduate programs in music therapy and a new bachelor’s degree of music ministry. In addition to student ensembles winning awards/performing at state and regional conferences, the school launched the Spirit of Pittsburgh series that features student and faculty ensembles, and celebrates the music, culture and history of the city.

More than 200 student, faculty and guest performances each year continue to draw capacity audiences, enhanced by new live-streaming system which makes concerts available throughout the world.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving Duquesne University as Dean of the Mary Pappert School of Music,” Wehr said. “Our graduates are making an enormous impact on the lives of others through their work in music education, music therapy, music technology and performance, increasing our regional, national and international profile with the excellence of their musical skills. I am grateful for the superb work of my leadership team, faculty and staff.”
