Q&A with Amy:

What drew you to Duquesne when you were choosing a college?

It was important for me to be in a city, and Duquesne struck the perfect balance between access to jobs and internships while still having a dedicated campus that gave me the classic college experience. It was the perfect size – large enough to offer opportunities and resources, but small enough to ensure personalized attention from my professors.

"I could get a job anywhere with a degree from Duquesne."

Amy Del Rio-Gazzo

How did you decide on your major? Did you always know what you wanted to study?

I wasn’t sure about my major when I started, so I began in the Communication and Rhetorical Studies Department. As I began taking classes, I explored various areas that sparked my interest, especially in the Media Department. It was through these classes that I started discovering my strengths and passions. The professors and mentors in both departments plated a pivotal role in guiding me toward majors that best aligned with my goals.

How did your connections at Duquesne help shape your career path?

The connections I made at Duquesne were pivotal. My first boss was one of my former instructors! Professors, mentors, and classmates have been invaluable for bouncing ideas, offering support, and helping me find job opportunities.

What skills from your time at Duquesne have been the most valuable in your career?

My classes taught me to be curious, ask questions, and take risks. The advertising and PR industry is always evolving, but Duquesne gave me the foundational skills to build my career and adapt to change.
