The Rev. John Fogarty, C.S.Sp., has returned to campus after being named senior advisor to the president for Spiritan mission and campus culture by Duquesne President Ken Gormley.

"I'm so pleased to welcome Fr. John Fogarty back to Duquesne in this new and important role," said Gormley. "As a longtime member of our founding order, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit—and most recently as worldwide leader of the Spiritan Congregation, serving as superior general based in Rome—Fr. John has already proven to be a leader on our campus and globally. He will be a vital asset to me as a new member of Cabinet, building our community and supporting our Spiritan mission at the University."

Fogarty served as director of the Center for Spiritan Studies and then director of the Office of Mission and Identity when he was at Duquesne from 2004 to 2009. He then served as provincial superior of the Spiritan United States Province before being elected superior general by the Congregation in 2012.

Working with all constituencies, Fogarty will provide leadership in enriching campus culture and fostering the promotion and implementation of the Spiritan charism and vision for education.

Fogarty, who returned to campus in August, said he's happy to be back.

"I have very pleasant memories of my four years here in the past," he said. "I have a lot of friends who are still here, and there are many people across the campus community who are very committed to the Spiritan Congregation and the mission of the University. That continues to really inspire me."

n his new role, Fogarty emphasized that he will work and talk with a variety of departments and areas at Duquesne most directly concerned with the mission, including diversity and community outreach, among others.

"This is a joint enterprise, and it's not only about articulating the mission, but living that mission at all levels, including relationships, the way we operate, etc.," Fogarty explained.
