Pittsburgh’s oldest amateur theater company will be commemorated in bronze and stone on Thursday, March 23, as a plaque designating the “Red Masquers Wall” is unveiled on Seitz Street, adjacent to the Genesius Theater.

Faculty, staff, students and the general public are invited to attend the event, which will begin at 5:15 p.m. outside the Genesius Theater. University President Ken Gormley and Emeritus Professor of Law Mark Yochum, who generously funded the plaque, will provide brief remarks. There will also be a blessing of the plaque. Attendees can register for the event.

Yochum has performed in scores of regional theater productions over more than four decades, and starred as Willy Loman in the Red Masquers’ first production in Genesius Theater, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, in 2015. More recently, he portrayed Duquesne’s founder, the Rev. Joseph Strub, C.S.Sp., during the “Fire Up the Night” event launching the IGNITE fundraising campaign during Homecoming and Family Weekend in October 2022.

Following the ceremony, the Red Masquers will stage the premiere performance of a new comedy, Serenade, by local playwright and Duquesne alumnus Timothy Ruppert. Originally from Yonkers, N.Y., Ruppert received his Ph.D. in British Literature from Duquesne in 2008 and is a graduate of The Second City Writing Program.
