Tuesday, Jan. 16, 7:30 to 9 p.m., PNC Recital Hall: Uptown Jazz Series—J.J. Johnson 100th Birthday Celebration
Featuring the series’ artistic directors Mike Tomaro and Jeff Bush, the concert will join Duquesne jazz faculty and guest trombonists to celebrate jazz trombonist great J.J. Johnson.
 
Sunday, Jan. 21, 3 to 5 p.m., PNC Recital Hall: Chopin & Schumann on the Bluff—Folk Style
Presented by the Mary Pappert School of Music, the concert will feature performances by Music Dean David Allen Wehr, artistic director of the series, members of Duquesne’s voice and musicianship faculty, pianist Nathália Kato Giordano and cellist Clancy Newman.

Learn about this five-week, virtual evidence-based program during this Center for Integrative Health Session. Held in partnership with the American Heart Association, the cohort meets virtually on Mondays at 10 a.m. Registration is required. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 12 to 2 p.m., Power Center Ballroom: Staff Forum
Designed for staff (faculty had a separate forum), this presentation with Provost Dr. David Dausey and Matthew Frist, senior vice president for finance and business, will address the state of higher education; current financial trends; the strategic direction of academic affairs at the University; and a question-and-answer segment. Sponsored by the Duquesne University Staff Advisory Council. Lunch will be provided. Staff attendees must RSVP by Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 12 p.m., PNC Recital Hall: Sites of Spiritan Spirtuality

Join Dr. Ann Labounsky and the Rev. Jean-Michel Gelmetti, C.S.Sp., who will share photos and discuss their experiences from a trip they led in 2023 for a group of students, faculty and alumni. They toured a variety Spiritan sites in France, which included eight cathedrals and important monuments.

Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m., PNC Recital Hall: Go to the People Film Screening 
View the story of Dr. Jim Withers, founder of Operation Safety Net, an organization that provides medical treatment to Pittsburgh’s unhoused and is recognized as one of the nation’s first full-time street medicine programs. Dr. Sharony Green, associate history professor at the University of Alabama, will explore author Zora Neale Hurston’s efforts to balance her need for adventure with peace, all while experiencing the complexities of being an American and aging Black woman.

This multidisciplinary hackathon aims to develop new technology and policy solutions that mitigate online hate and create safer communities. Registration is required.
