Duquesne University was one of only 22 Pennsylvania schools designated a Voter Friendly Campus by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project.
A total of 262 colleges and universities with strong commitments to voter registration, education and turnout as part of their institutional mission were named to the 2023-2024 list. The Voter Friendly Campus program is designed to help institutions address the many challenges that prevent college students from participating in the political process and foster a culture of democratic engagement on their campuses, including in years without a national election.
To earn the Voter Friendly Campus designation, campuses must submit a plan and report the results after implementing the plan for a general election.
“While we are seeing an alarming number of state legislatures introduce and pass legislation aimed at making it harder to vote, it has been reassuring to see the effort higher education institutions are showing to help their students cast their ballots and get engaged in democracy,” said Mike Burns, national director of Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project.
