2024 Summer Construction Projects

Below is a sample of some of the scheduled projects.

The Thomas R. Kline School of Law: second-floor lobby and lounge renovations begin Monday, May 20. Projects include new ceilings, lighting, flooring and finishes to the upper and lower lounges and the north and south corridors, with fireplaces and a new self-serve Grab & Go food market. 

Main entrances at the law school’s second floor will be closed through Friday, August 16—interior and exterior signage will direct people to the school’s third-floor entrance. Staff will be able to swipe in with their ID cards at the Locust Street first-floor Law Library entrance. 

In addition, the work will begin in mid-July to overlay the law school’s roof ‘A’ East Section. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Rockwell Hall: tear-off and replacement of the 10th floor roof is scheduled to begin Monday, June 3. A crane and dumpster will be placed near the corner of Shingiss and Locust Streets for approximately two weeks. Project is expected to finish by early July, depending on weather and insulation-material availability.

Garages and Pedestrian Bridge Work: Beginning May 20, projects include pressure washing and sealing Forbes Garage levels one through four; precast panel cleaning of the Locust Garage northwest elevation; and concrete and miscellaneous repairs and painting throughout both garages. 

Horizontal beam painting will be done in all of Forbes Garage between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., with two levels closed at a time. All drive lanes will remain open throughout the summer. Level closures will be adjusted during the First-Year Advisement Summer Transition (FAST) scheduled from Tuesday, July 9, through Friday, July 12. Work to be completed before Freshman move-in in August. 

Rehab work will be done during evenings to the underside of the Sklar Forbes Pedestrian Bridge (between Forbes Garage and the Power Center), including concrete and steel rust repair and painting. Scaffolding will be set on roof enclosure between the Energy Center and the Chiller Plant. 

Union Exterior Ramp Maintenance and Repairs: Beginning approximately between May 20 and Monday, May 27, floor surface re-coating will be done to west-side area at grade level as well as pressure washing and cleaning of ramps leading to the Incline. Miscellaneous concrete deck and wall repairs will be conducted on both the east and west sides.

Combination Sewer Inspections and Relining: Beginning Monday, June 10, Locust Street combination sewer relining will be done from the front of the Union down to intersection of Locust and Magee Streets. 

Sewer line inspections and assessment of areas around the Administration Building, Trinity Hall and the John G. Rangos School of Health Sciences will take place in mid-July.
