The 11th annual Cops & Chefs BBQ was a great success, raising over $2,300 for the
United Way. Thanks to all of the members of the Department of Public Safety and Duquesne
Dining for their continued commitment to the United Way.
In addition, more than 30 Duquesne employees recently worked side-by-side to pack school supply bags for local K-8 students for the annual School of Nursing United Way School Supply Drive. Understanding that equity and opportunity begin at home, University employees from across campus stepped up and donated enough supplies to make 350 bags that included folders, notebooks, crayons, colored pencils, markers, pencils, pens, glue sticks and rulers. This was the most successful drive to date!
More than 300 first-generation students at Duquesne received care packages during Freshman Orientation that were prepared at an event hosted by Gumberg Library through the United Way. Duquesne graduate Damon Bethea, coordinator of the United Way Next Gen Committee for Business Professionals Under 35, nominated the University for the project that provided care packages that included blankets, snacks, notebooks and more. Several Duquesne alumni from the United Way Next Gen Committee were joined by University volunteers to assemble the boxes at Gumberg Library.
Duquesne employees are encouraged to check out the Duquesne United Way website for details on how to make their 2024 pledge. Note that those who donated to the Campaign last year via payroll deduction will have their pledge rollover to this campaign and continue at the level they selected. Visit the website and click pledge now to make changes.
Keep an eye out for messages regarding monthly basket raffles and other fundraisers, including a hoagie sale and walking taco sale, among others. If you would like to help with the campaign by joining a committee, email co-chairs Sara%20Baron or Melissa%20Jackman.
