Duquesne University is enhancing its campus printing services by transitioning from its recent partnership with FedEx Office to a new provider better aligned with the evolving needs of the campus community.

“For a variety of reasons, we determined that the FedEx partnership wasn’t meeting the needs of our community,” said Gabe Welsch, vice president of marketing and communications. “We researched and evaluated a variety of potential providers to find the best fit for Duquesne. We selected a provider with a strong history of delivering high-quality printing solutions for the University—Broudy Printing, Inc.”

The transition marks a return to a trusted partner. Broudy has supported Duquesne for more than two decades, delivering high-quality print solutions for admissions, development and other key departments. The University’s FedEx agreement will end Sunday, Oct. 5.

To streamline ordering, Broudy has developed an online portal through which campus offices and individuals can order materials. The portal is currently operational and will be managed by the Division of Marketing and Communications (DMC) to ensure high quality, compliance with brand standards and oversight of related services for branded material.

“Campus partners who work with DMC will continue to do so through their respective staff contacts,” Welsch explained. “Initial access will be given to frequent users, comprising administrative employees throughout various offices and other professionals who work regularly with DMC and who order significant amounts of printing.”

Important to note:

  • Faculty and staff seeking simple non-branded copying and printing jobs for classroom and course materials, internal documents and other, non-branded material will have access to the portal and favorable pricing. Valid departmental budget numbers are required to order printing through the Broudy portal.
  • Branded material used for audiences including admissions, advancement, conferences and events, student life, auxiliary services, or any other general public audiences will still be developed in the usual process with DMC. Contacts within the division will guide solutions that can include brochures, flyers, posters, newsletters, and bound products of various sizes.
  • Finally, Broudy provides a business card and stationery ordering system that allows approved users the ability to update and order their own materials.

Broudy will make daily delivery runs to campus as jobs are completed. For your planning, please know that rush jobs of less than 24 hours will not be possible, but most standard jobs should take no more than 2-3 days to print, once production proofs are approved.

“DMC will be working with Broudy to monitor and optimize delivery times as we are able.  Guidance for using the platform for general print needs is forthcoming. For now, contact Steve Scott, manager of print services, regarding orders,” Welsch said.

Once access to the Broudy interface is open, a link will be available through the Duquesne Portal, requiring MultiPass credentials to access. Additional details will be shared soon to help guide your use of the new platform.

“Thank you to everyone in advance for their patience as we continue to work on the right printing solution for Duquesne,” Welsch said.

Below are FAQs to further assist with the transition to Broudy.

Research posters are important and sort of specialized—how do you plan to handle those?

Ordering will take place through the Broudy interface, or directly with Steve Scott in Print Services as needed, and production and delivery will be done by Modern Reproductions. The University has a 20+ year relationship with that printer and they are dependable. We also have very limited capability with some remaining equipment within DMC.

DMC is creating templates that faculty and students may use to build their posters within the Broudy interface so that the University’s logo and identifiers are integrated into the product. Prices for poster printing will be comparable to previous years.

Sometimes we discover we need a poster the same day—can we do that?

Generally, no. The University does not have the capability to handle same-day requests. For honorary degrees, official documents and emergency foam board signage print services can generally accommodate a shorter turn-around.

For Commencement, we often do not have complete information until very close to the ceremony. How will those be handled?

We have worked with Broudy to develop a plan to handle Commencement projects, knowing information is not complete until right before the ceremony. DMC and Printing Services will work with Conferences and Events to ensure production needs are met.

What if I want to do something like merchandise or a banner or something not on paper that Broudy doesn’t normally do?

DMC is working with Broudy to integrate other partner vendors into the system to help meet those needs and provide campus colleagues a single place for ordering. Of course, Steve Scott will continue to maintain relationships with an array of vendors so that we are able to meet emerging needs that may not fall neatly into the new business solution. Such vendors that we currently use could include Club Colors and FastSigns, for instance.

Will the Broudy interface be open to all staff eventually?

Right now, the University envisions opening the system to all staff and faculty after an initial period of use.
