2026 Summer Construction, Improvement Projects

While many projects are scheduled to minimize disruption, employees, students and visitors may experience temporary detours, road closures, restricted access areas and parking impacts throughout the summer. Additional updates will be shared with campus as needed.

Our students are at the heart of what we do every day. The following new, continued and upgrading projects focus on improving student learning, dining and living on campus.

Fisher Hall: Civil Engineering Lab
The new School of Science and Engineering civil engineering lab and classroom space will be completed in Fisher Hall and will be ready for students this fall to support their hands-on learning. 

Towers: Hogan Dining Hall 
One of the largest projects on campus this summer, Hogan Dining Hall is getting a major glow up inspired by student input from focus groups and feedback on vision boards. It’s the biggest refresh in nearly 15 years, with enhancements like new food concepts, all new furniture and finishes, dedicated booths for studying, room to accommodate larger gatherings and events, and a more open floor plan. 

New Health Sciences Facility
Duquesne continues to reshape the Fifth Avenue corridor with a new Health Sciences Building project. Site preparation converting the old surface lot between the UPMC Cooper Field House and Forbes Garage for construction will take place later this summer. 

School of Pharmacy: New Student Lounge 
Room 318 in the School of Pharmacy is being converted into a new student lounge.

Gumberg Library: Fifth Floor 
Renovation work is underway on the fifth floor of Gumberg Library, including façade and interior updates that will bring the outdoors in with large picturesque windows. 

Vickroy Hall: Continued Upgrades
Renovations continue in Vickroy Hall with upgrades to student rooms, hallways and common areas as well as elevator upgrades.

Des Places Hall: Honors College Relocation 
The 12th floor of Des Places Hall is being renovated for the relocation of the Honors College.

Mellon Hall: Laura Lecture Hall 
The Laura Lecture Hall in Mellon will be upgraded with new power-seating and podium-area upgrades.

These improvements focus on maintenance, infrastructure and safety across campus:

• Gormley Student Union: Africa Room
• The Africa Room will receive updated finishes, furniture and interior improvements.

• Campus road, sidewalk and landscaping enhancements
• Cordia condensation leak excavation work near Brottier Hall
• Sewer relining and utility mapping near Shingiss Street, McAnulty Drive and Gibbon Street
• Gormley Student Union: second-floor roof replacement, exterior ramps preventative maintenance and repairs
• Towers third-floor roof replacement
• Duquesne Kline School of Law roof overlay
• College Hall exterior limestone cleaning, masonry work and window replacement
• Rockwell Hall basement lecture hall and Carfang Suites areas: sprinkler system work, replacing fan coils and installation of two single-use restrooms
• Forbes and Locust Garages: preventative maintenance and structural repairs, including stairwell and elevator lobby painting
• Old Main: phase three of HVAC improvements on the second floor
