Month with a range of campus events celebrating Black history, culture and achievement,
including guest lectures on civil rights and social justice, musical and storytelling
performances, career networking opportunities, and community-building programs like

Duquesne University Athletics Events
Cheer on the Dukes! Men’s and women’s basketball, acrobatics and tumbling, swimming
and diving, bowling and other sporting events are open to all employees. A comprehensive

Friday, Feb. 6, to Friday, Feb. 20: Grefenstette Center’s Hacking4Humanity (H4H) Student Hackathon
Duquesne’s Grefenstette Center is hosting undergraduate and graduate students from
the Pittsburgh region for the Challenging AI Injustice, Building Ethical Futures hackathon. The event challenges students to tackle real-world social problems through
technology and policy. Advisors from across campus will guide participants as they
build skills, connect with mentors and peers, and compete for cash prizes. Employees
are encouraged to share this opportunity with students and learn more about H4H and
other Grefenstette Center events.
Wednesday, Feb. 11: 11th Annual Duquesne Day of Giving
Celebrate all things Duquesne during our 11th annual one-day giving event along with

Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., Gumberg Library: The Ethical Responsibilities of Media When Tragedy Strikes a Community
Join a panel on the ethical responsibilities of journalists when tragedy strikes a
community, featuring reporters, a former Department Of Justice attorney and a family
member of victims, as they reflect on tragedy, resilience and hope. This discussion
complements the traveling mosaic exhibition From Darkness to Light: Mosaics of Healing
and Hope, on display in the Library’s Popular Reading Room (through Tuesday, March
31), which honors resilience and remembrance in response to the 2018 Tree of Life
attack.

Join the Duquesne community for Be Part of the Story: Keeping Pittsburgh’s Traditions Alive, a lively conversation celebrating the city’s rich heritage and cultural evolution.
Long known as a “melting pot” city, Pittsburgh’s steel-mill roots helped shape a vibrant
culture of music, food, dance and enduring traditions. The program features Greek
dance performers, ethnic craft demonstrations, Pittsburgh’s jazz legacy and iconic
local foods, followed by a Pittsburgh-style food fest reception.

Wednesday, March 11, to Sunday, March 15, PPG Paints Arena: Atlantic 10 Championships
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Tournament, the A-10
Championships will be held in Pittsburgh. As a member of the A10, Duquesne University’s
men’s basketball team may compete at PPG Paints Arena if they qualify. The Duquesne community is encouraged
to attend an upcoming Duquesne Dukes game on their path to the championship. A-10 Tickets are now on sale.
Wednesday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Power Center Ballroom: Graduate Research Symposium
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the symposium showcasing graduate
student research. This professional conference-style event gives students the opportunity
to present their work, build communication skills and have fun connecting with the

This annual conference will explore Global Health on a Warming Planet, connecting climate change, global health and environmental justice. Featured speakers
include Dr. Adelheid Onyango of the World Health Organization Regional Office for
Africa and the Rev. Chika Onyejiuwa, C.S.Sp., director of KIBANDA asbl. The conference
also will highlight student research on sustainability and climate-related challenges.

This year’s annual symposium, Is There an Antidote to Post-Truth? Phenomenology and Dissent, explores phenomenology’s enduring commitment to truth-seeking and living truthfully
