As Duquesne prepares to welcome another outstanding incoming class, faculty and staff are invited to support the First Year Advisement Summer Transition (FAST) program by volunteering in FAST Lab.

FAST Lab gives volunteers an opportunity to work one-on-one with incoming students and their families, helping them complete important transition tasks such as updating emergency contact information, granting FERPA access and learning about resources like Starfish and Degree Planner. The experience plays an important role in helping students feel prepared and connected before they begin to pursue their bigger goals in the fall.

FAST Lab will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Monday, July 6, and Wednesday, July 8: School of Science and Engineering, School of Nursing and the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
  • Tuesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 9: Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, School of Education, John G. Rangos, Sr. School Health Sciences, Mary Pappert School of Music and the School of Pharmacy

Due to construction on the fifth floor of Gumberg Library, this year's FAST Lab will be held on the fourth floor. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

All volunteers must attend one mandatory online training session to review the FAST process and points to cover with students and their families:

  • Tuesday, June 16, at 10 a.m.
  • Monday, June 22, at 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 25, at 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 1, at 9 a.m.

Employees interested in volunteering can email%20Todd%20Eicker, executive director of student services in the Enrollment Management Group, with their preferred training session and available FAST Lab dates.

Volunteer support not only creates a welcoming first experience for students and families, it also sets the stage for a successful start at Duquesne.
