Society for Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology

July 17-18, 2026

Duquesne University is pleased to welcome the Society for Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology (SQIP), a section of APA Division 5, to Pittsburgh for its 2026 Conference. The theme for this year is "Narrating the Needs of Our Time: Inquiries of Hope, Connection, and Possibility.” We trust the conference will build community and advance our profession as we share ideas related to qualitative methods and research findings that demonstrate the potential of psychology to address the significant concerns facing our world today.

Sara McClelland is a professor of Women’s & Gender Studies and Psychology at the University of Michigan. A feminist psychologist, she studies stigma, discrimination, and reproductive justice, focusing on how social and political contexts shape intimate lives. Her work critiques research methods that obscure structural inequality and examines women’s sexual health, policy, and stereotypes. Her current research explores U.S. attitudes toward abortion, especially at the intersection of race and gender, and she develops “critical methods” that incorporate history and political context into psychological research.
